Re: Brothers Four concert
You have a good memory, Jackson. The story we used to tell about “Rasp-Straw” was that when George and I decided to put the song into the show as a duet, we couldn’t understand the “fake French” that the Trio had sung on the original recording. So we took the record to a French teacher that George knew and when she heard the recording she made a stab at translating what she heard. She said, “I believe that an approximate translation of that line would be ‘The cow is blue and in the big cheese.’” Of course that bears no resemblance to the subject matter of the song, so she told us to sing “Ah! Les fraises et les framboises et les bon vins nous avons bus” which I still can’t pronounce correctly, but I believe the translation is something like “Ah! The raspberries and the strawberries and the good wine is on the bus with the Avon lady.” I could be wrong about that, but I actually kinda like the image of a blue cow wallowing in big cheese.
