Re: Japanese Fan Base
Hey, Joe, thanks for you interest. Your thoughtful question contains no simple answer. In a few months The Brothers Four will make what I believe is our 55th trip to Japan. The shortest answer for why the connection came from a Japanese man who practiced hard to explain: "Because of The Brothers Four I learned English. (In other words he listened to the records while looking at Japanese lyrics-over and over). He went on: "Because I learned English I did well in school. Because I did well in school I went to a good University. Because I went to a good University I got a good job. Because I got a good job I met my friends. Cause I met my friends I met my wife. Cause I met my wife I got my kids. Cause I got my kids I got my life...Because of The Brothers Four."
It has been a 55 year love affair between country and group that because of good luck could be developed both consciously and unconsciously into an amazing and ongoing career.
Also, Bob Flick works very hard to nurture meaningful relationships.
The only other group that "rivals" The Brothers Four in Japan might be the Ventures-when I was growing up in the late 50's and early 60's you could choose to be a "folkie" or a "rocker" with The Kingston Trio being the main folk influence and Elvis the main rock influence. In Japan a few years later in many ways that duality was represented by us and the Ventures.
Thanks, Joe, on the banjos. I feel very lucky to be playing such wonderful instruments. What are you playing these days?
And, again, thank you to Bob for hosting this fine forum.
