Bob Shane's solo career

In reflecting on the discussion below about voices and how they blend in a group context, I want to bring up the fact that after the Trio broke up in 1967, Bob Shane attempted a short-lived solo career. He could have succeeded had Decca promoted him properly. But despite his solo-quality voice, good looks and general marketability, he missed singing in a group format. Perhaps it was the failure of his release of "Honey" that caused him to turn his back on a solo career (and I'll bet he's glad now that he doesn't have that song dogging him like "Tom Dooley" and "Scotch & Soda") but he did find more comfort in having other guys with him on stage. As for me, I do OK as a solo performer, but there are definitely times when I long for at least one other voice to harmonize with.
