Re: Limeliters - Landmark Theatre
At the risk of diving into a deep, philosophical discussion, musicians who perform to high standards should not be personal "idols" - artistic, perhaps, but not determiners of our ethical or moral standards. Secondly, unless we know all of the facts and not the facades, who are we to say that a business dealing is in any way related to beauty, truth and honor. There is nothing "beautiful" about a business deal. It is all about economics and should be conducted in a moral and ethical fashion. I have been a businessman for 41 years. I operate according to my own standards and do what I think is right - not what anyone else tells me is right - I have to satisfy myself before anyone else and defy anyone to gainsay me who is not privy to all facts. I have had to dismiss people to whom I become very close for failure to perform. Was I happy about it ? No. Did I violate my moral standards - again - No. If someone who owns a business states openly that he made a difficult decision for business reasons, I have to respect that. I may not like it, but I have to respect it. If I conducted my personal life in the same manner and attitude as I conduct my business life, I wouldn't have been married to the same incredible woman for 39 years. Conclusion from this rambling - do not presume to judge the honesty and integrity of an artist's performance on stage by a subjective and superficial understanding of perceived actions offstage.
