For what it's worth, Paducah is in Kentucky, which is an odd name itself. You'll find many a peculiar place name over here, without a doubt. I grew up near a town named Hell. Nice enough place although in winter it got as cold as, well, you know. People kept stealing the signs outside of town.
You Brits have some pretty interesting place names too: Puddington, Crinkley Bottom, Wookie Hole, Upper and Lower Dicker, Pratt's Bottom, Feckenham, Bell End, Tiptree, and Bishops Itchington. I don't know whether I would admit to being from Pratt's Bottom. One could go on ...
I guess I'm easily amused.
