I put the Isuzu brakes on the front of an ’82 4-door years ago. The brakes in that car have progressed from:
‘82 Calipers with ’82 manual Master cylinder
‘82 Calipers with ’82 vacuum Master cylinder
‘83+ Calipers with ’82 vacuum Master cylinder
’86 Isuzu Calipers with ’82 vacuum Master cylinder
Of the above combinations, the ‘biggest bang for the buck’ was the ‘83+ Chevette Calipers. The Isuzu setup does stop slightly better, but the biggest difference I noticed was that brake fade was greatly reduced.
What I’m really interested in this time around is the differential. It’s very close to a Chevette only beefier. It has disk brakes, a sway bar, and no C-clips (think ford 9”). The spider gears are also supposed to be hardened and swappable as well. If you can find a turbo version (unlikely) they are supposed to be limited slip. I want to see how much of this I can get under a Chevette. I don’t think I can swap the whole thing in as the Isuzu torque tube and mount are fairly different (larger) from the Chevette. At the very least I may just cut the ends off the Isuzu axle tubes and graft them to a Chevette axle.
I believe I still have some pictures of the from when I swapped the Impulse brakes on to the front of the 4-door. If there’s any interest I’ll try to dig those up this weekend.
Hope that wasn’t too long and rambley,
Ra
