I just bought a 1985 two door last week from an original owner here in KY. It's a nice optioned A/C car with a 5 speed and rust in some tough areas. It is way better than my 4 door was when I got it but it needs a complete overhaul. The strut towers and passenger floor are perfect but the left rocker is bad and the drivers floor is getting there. I decided to rotisserie the shell and make it as perfect as I can. I regret not doing the metal work on my 4 door as well as I should have. I wont make that mistake again. The one thing that I cant decide on is the engine. I debate going with a 3.4 like Lou's car or a stock appearing 1.6 with 90hp or I was wanting to try a small turbo blow through carburetor 1.6. Then I was thinking building a E85 1.6 engine. If I could score an early head that would be the deciding factor. An Ecotec or small block is out of the question, I want to keep the A/C on this one. Since the car has a 5 speed already the 1.6 is most likely the way to go.I have had great success with my my turbo engines. The stock engine went 45000 miles @ over 15psi with a lean fuel economy tune. When I tore it down it had one bad compression ring on number 3 cylinder from running lean. The new engine had an early cam journal scare but it has been over 10k since then and I pull it to 6500rpm @16 psi every day and it hasn't even hiccuped.
