I realize the 1.6 is a stroked version of the 1.4 but what exactly was different, is the cylinder bore the same? I can't seem to find any information on the 1.4 to tell what the differences are. I mean crank, rods, pistons, deck height could all be different.
Does anybody know the difference between the 76-78 1.6 vs the 79-87 1.6??
Apparently 76-78 pistons had a compression height of 1.288 while the newer pistons had a compression height of 1.474
Reason for asking is I'm budget building a 1.6 using an 83 block to put in my car, The bearings are all within spec but it looks like it got hot and there is some scoring on the piston skirts and cylinder walls.
I'd like to replace the pistons with part number 3412 from the Silv-O-Lite catalog.
3412 is a flat top piston for the Brazilian export 1.4 It seems to come in the same standard bore, with the same wrist pin diameter with a compression height of 1.475 the top two rings are 2.0mm instead of 1.5mm and the overall piston height isn't listed.
Am I somewhat on the right track here or have I just been staying up too late and confusing myself until it makes sense in my head
