The thing is, there's just TOO MUCH to do for one game. I've been chipping away at the pictograph/figurine quest for a while. As of tonight, I should have picture #111 of the Darknut in white armor (then what's the "dark" part?). There are nine bonus statues that seem to unlock as a group, so I should be able to bring my collection up to 120. There are already three rooms that are completely full of figurines. I should have the final sailor for Windfall Island. I won't be able to complete Dragon Roost Island this time around, because one character disappeared. There was another guy where you can't seem to get an acceptable photo of him up close while you're on the island, so I waited until daytime, sailed my boat around to the side of the island where he's standing on a platform, and somehow, that photo with a high zoom level and not being at an angle where you could see his legs was marked acceptable. Go figure!
There was also the fishman, where I got a pretty good picture of his face early in my playthrough, but that didn't get approved. Then, I kept trying to get a closer picture, but he never stays in the same spot. He'll keep jumping and landing several feet from where he started. I was only catching a picture of the splash when he went underwater, or the annoying waves were blocking the view. The picture that did get marked as good was basically his backside and him appearing near the top of the picture.
Then, you just have to deal with the annoyance of waiting for a certain phase of the moon for the legendary pictures. You could technically get those all in a row by just playing the Song of Passing over and over. Of course, I'm trying to space them out, and I'm not ready for #115 yet, even though the moon might already be in the proper phase.
Once I get to #115, I think I'll take it at a slower pace, because I won't need to pay attention to the moon.
Other than a piece of heart quest where I'd have to sail around the map to eight different locations, I think I'm almost ready to take a "final lap" through the whole map, picking up whatever I missed. That could be a little harder with some of the prerequisites. Like, I know that one piece of heart requires a boost to your magic meter, but the place where you find the Big Octo that frees the fairy to double your magic meter is all the way near the South of the world map.
I guess I DO need to pay some attention to the moon until I can conquer the Ghost Ship. The location of that vessel changes with the phase of the moon, but I finally have a chart to track it down. There's one Great Fairy chart that I'm missing, but I'd have to look up where to find it (presumably from the one remaining Great Fairy who I haven't met?). Either that, or it's the one piece of treasure I haven't pulled up from the ocean floor yet.
When I do take that final trip to each place, I wonder if that will be really time consuming. The thing is, there are about 12 special charts, and I'll probably be going through each one outside the game to make a list: Did I collect the heart from this location? Is there a platform in this quadrant? A submarine? An octopus? Does the map say there's a heart here, because it's on the platform, in the submarine, or won from the octopus? Does the game remember or mark off what you've already visited? On the maps, I wouldn't think so, except for the collection quest that's mandatory for reaching the final castle. I'd only be able to know by climbing up platforms to see empty treasure chests. My experience has been that this game has way too many platforms, and the rewards are junk that you could already get some other way (especially gold feathers [you might only need 20 for the whole game] and the joy pendants, which are littered around dungeons, too).
Oh, yeah! There's one golden statue left in the Wind Temple. I've kind of seen a cheat video of where to find that, because it didn't seem too obvious. I need that last statue to make one character appear on Tingle Island, or else I wouldn't be able to take his picture and submit that for making a figurine.
The conquered temples are kind of weird to keep visiting, since three of them probably have a boss room that's empty. The Earth Temple lets you see Medli playing her harp, but I wasn't able to target her or make conversation. The Wind Temple should "logically" have Makar playing his violin.
I only need seven more pieces of heart, and I'm trying not to "spoil" all of those, other than weird ones, like making a pig dig in the mud for you. There's a couple where I inspired the guy to ask Linda on a date, but I haven't seen them in the bar/coffee shop at night. They might go there during the day? One comes from watering some trees. That should leave maybe four more. At Needle Rock Island, I was struggling to reach a crystal that stops the fire around a treasure chest. You need a pear to fly a seagull up there, but first, you should try and shoot down the Kargarocs with arrows, or else they just chase your seagull and you lose control over it.
That's pretty much a long summary of these statistics:
Figures - up to 120 of 133/134 (#134 might be a bonus)
Charts - 49 of 49
Treasures collected - 45 of 46 regular ones, 2 of 3 that have to be decoded by Tingle
Collectible Quest - five of eight pieces
Pieces of Heart - 18.25 hearts, with seven more pieces
Tingle Statues - 4 of 5
Submarines/Platforms/Secret Caves: no idea
I feel like I can definitely finish the game during 2017, though. It's going to be weird to finally come back to the main story, and I can't complete the gallery of figures without a SECOND playthrough - that one shouldn't take 96 hours, though.
