Today, I used Wreck-It Ralph for the first time. I wish I had at least played his arcade game back in the day to know how he's supposed to move. I was afraid he might be a clone of Mr. Incredible, since they're both so huge and you'd assume they're strong. There's not much to worry about in that regard. For all of Mr. Incredible's melee moves, I hardly remember using his B attack. Ralph has the B attack I was expecting (a ranged weapon), but it doesn't seem like you can target an enemy, or adjust the length of the attack. On top of that, he's barely accurate with it! That kind of makes sense, with him being so enormous, but it sort of discourages me from leveling him up all the way. His regular Z move is what I assume he does in the arcade game, but on a horizontal plane straight ahead. In the sumo minigame, I've probably knocked myself off the stage by accident 25% of the time.
I might be warming up some more to Buzz Lightyear. He feels like the fastest character I've used in the game (three of them are basically these hukling giants, and then Rapunzel is agile, but doesn't feel extremely fast when she walks or runs). His default B attack are the "Pixar balls" I mentioned last time. He has what seems like PERFECT accuracy with those, as long as you're facing a target. So, imagine how disappointed I was to see how they don't do any damage outside of his play set! When I play the sumo game ("Stay on the blocks as long as you can!"), I'm trying to pick up a blaster as soon as possible, since he's pretty good with those.
When people criticize the play sets for being repetitive, I can kind of see what they mean. On the one hand, it's cool how they try to build some of the mundane tasks into "tutorials" for how you perform certain moves. The thing is, shouldn't the game have some way of tracking the fact that this is my THIRD play set?!! If I don't know the melee move yet, or climbing ledges, that would be pretty sad. The voice acting is really neat in the "Toy Story" play set, even if it's redundant, or the characters can be annoying. I'm thinking the pig is that actor who played the white haired postman on "Cheers"? Assuming he was the mailman. T-Rex sounds like Wallace Shawn. I mostly remember him from an opening scene of "The Princess Bride" where he shouldn't drink either glass of wine. I can't think of a name for the voice coming from the Slinky dog toy, but it sounds like Chet Hunter from "Boy Meets World/Girl Meets World."
It's hard to name a favorite play set so far. I may have finished most of the plot from "Monsters University," because they showed a cut scene about how the Fear-It Week competition with a rival school ended. There are still missions available on frat row, but I'm not sure how to complete them. For one, it looks like you just need to collect these yellow containers. Well, I've literally walked through them, and it's not letting you collect them as a regular character. You need to do something with the bike to reach them. YouTube might reveal those secrets. There are a few paintball missions I may not have completed.
So far, I haven't been able to figure out a curiosity regarding the play sets. Since there are usually a minimum of three characters who can enter each play set, does it matter who completes certain missions? In other words, is it your job to complete every mission as one character (except the ones that are locked), and would a second or third character entering that save file need to start over and do all the same missions? I'm thinking it might be better to rotate all three characters and not let one player do everything. As I mentioned, though, there's only one play set I can think of where I actually have two characters (since I bought the "Toy Story" pack as a complete set), and then I also want to get Woody, to have a chance to finish 100% of the play set, and see what that does. In "Monsters University," I can't see buying the other two guys or playing as them. Same with "Pirates of the Caribbean." Who would you rather be from that movie? Captain Jack? Barbossa (basically the villain from movie #1)? Davy Jones (the villain from movie #2)? No, thanks. I might get the daughter from "The Incredibles," because she seems pretty unique, and my balance of male and female characters is still favoring the guys pretty heavily (I am a guy playing the game by myself, though).
Regarding that question (whether extra characters need to replay the same missions), that could explain why all of my figures seem to have reached such a high level! I mostly remember using Sulley in his play set (maybe some minigames for a level or two), and he's around level 11. Ideally, I think it would be cool to need at least some time outside the play set to reach level 15 (there don't even seem to be enough missions left for him to reach level 15 by himself).
Then there's the whole Toy Box mode, which still feels mysterious! One day, I might just have to play 2 or 3 hours staying in that mode to find out how it all works. I won the cool metal rails in one of my recent sessions, but I doubt that I've unlocked the only toy box where you're allowed to build with them. It feels like you can do a lot of running and sight-seeing, but what's the goal? The packaging itself puts it all on YOU and your imagination. Right now, I'm basically trying to bank up a full 16 spins again (currently have 10 of them) to win every item from a screen of the lottery-type game where you access new toys.
The reason I mention wanting to keep myself under control with regard to figures is, have you seen the deals Toys R Us is offering? They have the 1.0 figures on sale for basically half price, and then the 2.0 ones are only $9 at most. I pretty much only want four more from the 1.0 game: Anna, Elsa, Violet, Woody. In 2.0, I'm kind of bummed that those play sets are disappearing (mostly Spider-Man, who I hoped to purchase in person to make sure his paint looks good). The figures still seem to be there with a bunch of tempting options: Donald Duck (I can't picture his attack move), Aladdin, Jasmine (ditto on their attacks), Hawkeye (it would be AWESOME to have a player who is an archer!), Merida (female player who should be an archer), Captain America ... For Iron Man, I know I'd need the starter pack. Then you get Thor as well. I'm barely familiar with his character. In the first movie, ALL of the women seem to be hot (Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Jaimie Alexander), so why would you be focusing on some viking from outer space? On top of the sales for the figures, I believe the power disc packs dropped in price from $5 (for only two discs) to $1.49 per pack. Last time, I picked out literally two of the same packs (identical discs in both of them), so I'd want to avoid that, maybe by shopping online.
Well, I'm missing the battle of undefeated teams on the Sunday night game, plus the Mets trying to stay alive (but then the series would just go back to KC with the Royals staying in the lead).
