Best Buy - I saw a Toad, in a bent package. He was probably the rarest figure at this store. I'm trying to picture the rest. Probably Sheik, Zelda, maybe Toon Link. The rest were Mario characters, or from the SMB/Mario Party 10 series. Silver Mario actually made an appearance. I don't have a regular Mario from the non-Smash series yet. It's hard to tell whether to buy him or not, if I already have two other versions.
Target - The whole amiibo section only had cases for the figures, but no actual amiibo. I'm wondering if Target as a store has kind of given up on these toys, or if they don't like the idea of big crowds (there isn't even background music playing in the stores). I've been checking my local store whenever I go buy other things, and the stock hasn't really changed for several months. Their Rosalina "restock" is rumored to be online purchases only.
TRU - I was looking for Sonic, and his peg was empty. Then he was in the glass case (just one of him), but I didn't ask to see him. It seemed like they were well-stocked on commons from waves 1 and 2. Pac-Man was there, but no more than two or three of him (supposedly a "common," released about five weeks ago?). I think they had every Super Mario figure except Toad or silver Mario.
That's pretty much it!! On the subreddit for amiibo, I've been checking way too often to read any stock alerts. People say Wii Fit Trainer came to Best Buy. Which Best Buy? Meta Knight supposedly came to a bunch of their stores, but I didn't look for amiibo during the whole month of June. I think Pit was supposed to be at TRU, but maybe his restock came and went really fast.
I don't know if I should believe what's on the shelf, or start asking employees at each store. That could be the missing element. It's weird that a store just wouldn't put something on the shelf if they actually had some stock, but I saw that happen on launch day for wave 4 at the local Best Buy.
The OCD part of me really wants Sonic to be my 13th figure (meaning I need to settle on a #12 first). I'm forgetting who was the 6th figure. Those are the two freaky numbers. I had a Mario (Smash) and a Luigi (SMB) to start. I picked up Kirby before he disappeared. There were three Samus left at one Best Buy. I only bought the one that looked the best. I'm thinking a Zelda character was #6 (possibly Zelda herself), which should make it more "lucky" for her to be that number. Sonic isn't a Nintendo character, so I wouldn't mind him at #13.
Otherwise, the hunt continues. At this point, I'm tempted to just start buying some of the "commons" that I skipped. I'm not sure if I'll grow to like Toon Link until I can play the "Wind Waker" remake (I got the game before the system). Donkey Kong and Diddy are pretty neat, but I'm feeling as if they're not useful in many of the amiibo games yet. They have their own Wii U starring role, but that game was released before amiibo became a big deal.
Long story short, I just bought the Wii U Pro controller. It's almost the price of a game. Then I feel like I'm slightly closer to actually playing Wii U (holding a piece of the hardware). The next step probably needs to be A JOB!!!
I've also been making this weird plan with buying the games and trying to pick the number of each one. I'm up to four discs now. I wanted to hold off on Mario Kart until #8 (since it's "Mario Kart 8"). I'm sure I'll eventually get "Super Smash Bros." (seems like a no-brainer after buying 11 amiibo). I thought about "Tropical Freeze" as #5 for whatever reason. "Call of Shooty" was looking like #6, but when I watched a video review, it was just blood and guts everywhere. It's hard to picture myself being able to buy that game. So, "Captain Toad" might be a good oddball game at #6. Of course, I'd want to hold off on buying a system now that I'm up to four games, because if I got the pack with "NintendoLand" and "Super Mario 3D World," one of them would be #6.
I'm thinking that OCD can drive a person crazy. It kind of makes sense to buy the cheaper games first, though. "Captain Toad" and "Tropical Freeze" are both less than $60.
I better eat dinner. Then, I wanted to catch up on my Wimbledon thread, plus talk about something neat that I noticed with Nintendo.
