I picked up a GP38-2 Wide nose cab piece at a hobby shop several months ago and only recently figured out which unit to attach it to. An SD35 with a wide nose would add quite a bit of visual interest to my roster, or so I figured. Unfortunately, I went about the removal of the battery boxes on the Atlas frame piece wrong, and wound up with a severely damaged frame on my hands. With the addition of a Dremel rotary tool, and today's receipt of two new SD35 sill pieces, my SD35W should see completion soon after I regain access to my work bench.
I found a couple of older, used, Roco(?) cranes for sale at a hobby shop in the Chicago area last spring and tore one apart to see if it could be improved on at all. So far I've replaced the smoke stack, painted the interior Gloss Black, and primed the shell. When I get access to my workbench again, I intend to paint the crane into a color scheme resembling the Huron and Eastern's original blue/yellow/white paint scheme (which is also the original color scheme of my SD35W model).
By the way, my apologies for the lack of participation lately. After classes wrapped up last week, I underwent fairly major surgery on my left foot, which has not only kept me from my work bench (in my bedroom, over top of our garage), but will be keeping me on crutches for most of the next 6 weeks. I'll probably be able to be active here, but progress in general on rebuilding my layout (torn apart again for another move about a month ago) will be stalled for quite some time yet.
