The GP35 is almost done. The main flaws in the old Athearn shells are the carbody being too wide (my brother and I started referring to them as "F35"s ), and the forward and rear facing cab windows are too tall and have gaps between the window and the roof. I tried to doctor the windows up a bit. The railings were the most difficult part of doing this model...it has the old-old Athearn style railings, where each stantion has an "eye hole" for the railing to go through. The stantions didn't fit into the holes in the shell's walkway at all, and I don't have a drill with a small enough bit to open them up. Eventually I got it cobbled together, and added all weather windows and sun shades. Most loco's I've seen have aluminum colored all weather windows, but the pictures I've seen of the Annie's geeps show them a grimy black color, so I went with black on these ones. Still need to give it some dullcote and weathering. It also needs a powered chassis...I had to borrow the trucks from an out-of-commision U23B for now.
