Have any of you seen all the ruckus going on about Terrace Lane and Oaklawn Terrace?

So here's the deal as I understand it. The people in what was once a very elite neighborhood, want to have their subdivision blocked off at each end to keep people from using it as a cut through.

It seems people on their way back in town from Wal Mart make a lot of right turns into the area and they fear the additional traffic may cause safety issues. They cite an old study about increased traffic since the overpass was built.

Well let's review. How many of those homeowners bought their house after the overpass was built? I know at least four because most recently, a friend bought one on the main part of Terrace Lane. He got a bargain because the house was very dated.

If memory serves, that neighborhood was built in the early sixties and this issue has come up a couple of times. To my knowledge, no one has ever been hit by a car on that main drag. Have there been a few yard jobs? Yes, and in fact, a couple of residents placed huge bolders in front of their yards to keep idiots from driving in them.

A few years back, Stratford Lane and Mockingbird were both rebuilt. Westmoreland and Parkview Drive became huge cut through streets. Was any consideration given to close that street?

Other dangerous streets around Granite City include "most of them". Watch how many cars blow the stop sign at Maryville and Terminal. Be alert when crossing Benton at 25th that people don't pull in front of you on your way to the leaf dump. Ever see any car not speeding down Maryville in front of the cemetery by the Moose Hall?

We don't need closed streets in GC. If you bought a house in a subdivision and it didn't have sidewalks, don't gripe when you have nowhere to walk with your kid. If you bought said house, knowing people speed through that area, don't gripe now.

    Any thoughts?
