It was my understanding that the city contracts out for the services of the new ED. She is not an employee. If they are now back pedaling on that issue and she is actually a hired employee, I agree with you. She should be invested and live here. As for teachers, local boards have no control. The Illinois school code dictates that teachers do not have to be residents of the district in which they are employed. The superintendent and other administrators are mandated to live here or at least they were back in the 90's. It's very frustrating to many of us old timers that our schools are good enough to take salaries from but not good enough for half of our teachers to send their kids to. I know a couple who both teach here but live in Edwardsville and send their kids to that district. Over $150,000 of salaries with no return on tax base. Until we increase the median income in GC, the city will continue to die with rental properties and low income residents who need help with things like free lunches. We're spiraling downward with very little hope of turning around now.
