I was at SSA last May, we had 10 inches of rain. Folks couldn't flush their toilets. Basements were full of sewage. Carp were spawning in the parking lots. All because Long Lake couldn't drain to Horseshoe Lake, for a variety of reasons that I've patiently explained.
Stormwater money is hard to come by, is budgeted as stormwater improvements, and will be spent on stormwater improvements somewhere. I would suggest that if public funds become available, especially from Washington or Springfield, that your community use it. If offered to the MESD Board on behalf of your community, whether for dredging or the Lake Drive Project, inform your "source" I can't think of a watershed more deserving of improvement anywhere in the American Bottoms.
