Very much agree with your take on the shift. JFK was in many ways a liberal but, as my tagline states, he wanted people to help the country as well as themselves.
Carter, in my opinion, was a very decent human being but the lamest President we've had in terms of foreign policy.
Clinton, was a breath of new fresh air, a hope for a future. He had a great first term somewhat due to Reaganomics. Jobs were good and people were working. And then, NAFTA and the crushing point to our industrial base.
In his second term, he became complacent and apparently real horny.
Bush II was more of a hawk but in my view, not an overly intelligent person.
Obama was slick. He leaked class and refinement much like the used car salesman. He was as weak as Carter in foreign policy but also wasn't concerned about anything but helping the black population, a goal he failed at miserably.
Trump is a boob. He shoots from the hip and speaks like a kid in a locker room.
However, I'm seeing factors like job growth (using the same references your side did with Obama), of course the solid stock market and a new confidence to invest. Look at newly constructed homes in our area. Emerald Meadows and the small subdivision across 162 selling new homes now better than they have in years.
The tax cuts are indeed trickle down economics. What would you have them do, continue down a path that didn't work? Yes, the tax breaks will end in 5-10 years but for at least that amount of time, families will have more money in their pockets which will be an immediate feed to the economy. Hopefully companies will expand and create new jobs.
