I've said that same thing may times Elroy. Why can't we at least get a return on our investment. Take our community for instance. So many people on public assistance. Their kids get free school meals, they get subsidized rent and free cell phones. How about we at least have them work for the city or park or school system for a couple of days a week picking up trash, raking leaves, or other unskilled manual labor tasks?
Put some structure in their lives and help the community at the same time. Anchorage Homes for instance could be a place for these folks to cut grass, wash windows, sweep streets, etc...
Why can't we put a few of the more healthy ones out on Route 203 or Route 3 to run lawnmowers and clean up that mess? 203 is an embarrassment and one of the main routes to our city.
Provide a hot lunch for these people using the township and more "free labor" to prepare those meals and clean up the hall after them?
Quite simply it will never happen because of liberal minded folks thinking it's okay to drink from the bucket without putting back any water. Add to that the fact the unions will never stand for free labor doing jobs that they could have their people doing. You know, maybe add one or two free works to help watch four paid employees watching one guy dig a ditch? And God forbid we get our highways cleaned up by free labor when IDOT employees can sit around and let the state look like crap.
One day we'll all be on welfare. I wonder who will pay the bills then.
