GIT, these ARE the good old days.
These days are the days you make them out to be.
We cannot 'TAKE AMERICA BACK'. We only have today and tomorrow. We can't be the Granite City of the 1950's.
Underneath the cloud of what seemed a perfect world was a lot of abuse that went unreported.. It all was swept under the rug, and people put on a much more convincing mask and didn't dare air their dirty laundry.
Problem was, these were not the good old days for all.
Sure, the sense of 'Values' was present in the public discourse, but those days were still pure hell for many, and there were many immoralities that went on, but were not seen or reported. That is because women and children did not have a voice in that society or were convinced that their story would not be believed.
You wouldn't hear of rape so often..and I'm sure it happened less. But when it did happen, how many victims do you believe never came forward because of intimidation or because of collaboration between the perpetrator..the police..and even the judge.
GIT -- it's still an unfortunate reality that some believe that abuse is the fault of the victim and this is 2010. Can you imagine how worse it was in 1950?
I am sorry..but we cannot "TAKE AMERICA BACK"...and as much as I love history and nostalgia, we cannot go back to the 1950's.
There's one thing you and I can control...and that's our corner in the world.
We can make the world a better place and a more moral place where we are. We have the power to be nice to our neighbor. We have the power to look out for others. We have the ability to act with integrity...to tell the truth when we need to.
I know sex and violence are out there for the world to see and I don't agree with it either. But I am glad society has progressed, and I don't want to go back to the era where "Father Knows best", because he truly doesn't. There are other voices that should be in the discourse besides white males with money and property.
So welcome, my good friend, to 2011...THESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS, if we treat them as such and accept the gift of life that has been given to us.
