I think it goes without saying, my views on the Westboro Baptist Church. It is still my mission to inform local authorities wherever the Phelps and their ilk will be protesting about their ordinances in regards to the American flag. That said, all this BS about how our forefathers would feel if they could see what the First Amendment is being used for these days is ridiculous. In a nutshell, the Freedom of Speech we enjoy today was put into our Constitution at a time when those that were loyal to the Crown of England thought that those who were seeking a new life in the New World were as vile as those scumbags that make up the Westboro Baptist Church and others. People were drawn and quartered, or outright killed, for blasphemy against England and the Crown. So, my pea brain thinks that maybe our forefathers are smiling down today, because the very system they set in place 200+ years ago is still working strong. Those brave men had more foresight and common sense in their pinkies than most of us have in our whole body. For anyone who has ever taken the oath of service, you know that protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States is paramount. And 7 of the 8 judges that hold seats on our Supreme Court upheld that oath today with honor.
