By your theory, no municipalities can be merged, as each is clearly distinct in terms of individual tax burden. I'm not sure about this, but I'd hedge that Granite has the highest taxes already? With more clout in county & even perhaps state gov't, we'd be in a better position to steal a larger chunk of change from the MadCo & Springfield treasuries. United we stand, divided we fall. And if Chicago has such an overreach, Kirk would have lost. Your us vs. them mentality is foolish, backwards, and unfounded. This state isn't solidly divided. If it was, Costello wouldn't occupy a safe seat. It is very clear which end of the state is more economically & politically successful. They have more people and in a republic (or whatever you wish to call it), they rightfully have more influence. In fact, I'd argue that having Senate actually decreases the power of any populous place.
