some interesting information I have discovered during this adventure:
The basic KC block was used on the Vitesse 1600. and the breather was fitted there, also early 2000 saloons also had the breather there until they were changed to the emission valve system as used on the GT6
The KC engine is a small crank engine with the blanking plate and the straight arm fuel pump the later engine had the casting altered to omit the breather hole and at the same time the fuel pump position was lowered and hence the different arm on the fuel pump

: Yes as mentioned previously the long arm
: requires a spacer to fit.
: The failure to pump is due to either a
: ruptured or displaced diaphragm, or
: sticking or displaced check valves.
: As an aside, some of the replacement
: pumps on the market a few years ago had
: terrible problems with the check valve
: assemblies falling out...

: after 2 days of off and on and toying
: with it, and poking and prodding on two
: other forums I think I have the answer.
: The exploded diagram shows a curved arm
: and the one I have is straight. My
: spare is curved, so I swapped em and no
: issues.
: But now it is not pumping, even though
: that diaphragm was good just yesterday.
: Guess it's time to install the new
: diaphragm.
: I don't recall ever swapping my fuel
: pump, but maybe I did for some reason
: since I stopped driving my car in 97.

: Been a while since I asked anything
: here,
: so I'll let you have the first crack at
: it since it will be a day or so before
: I can act on the advice:
: I got my engine started for the first
: time in years. (YAY!) The problem is,
: last time I messed with it I must have
: cross threaded the outlet of the fuel
: pump. (stock glass domed mechanical
: one), so after dealing with a leaking
: pump for the first test firing I
: replaced the now bad part with a spare.
: Hindsight tells me I could have done
: this without removing it,
: but....Anyway, now the priming lever
: works but the engine seems to run till
: the carb bowls run out of fuel, so it
: sounds to me like I didn't get the pump
: seated correctly. Any ideas on properly
: seating the lever?
:
: Just for kicks, here is it running.
