The important number is to make it 1.490 thick, and shim from there. I do have noted that using this MG spacer, the small end bore has to be opened up to 1.00. I can mic one of them up for OD and big end ID if you want but they just have to be a good fit on the shaft & the inner bearing races. It needs to be stout as well, so if you make one from scratch make it strong enough so it won't collapse at all when the flange nut is tightened...

: Re any rust on the R&P gear faces is
: cause for concern.
: Some will offer that if it isn't too
: bad they will work fine and the pitting
: provides extra little oil reservoirs
: yada yada yada.
: There may be some degree of truth to
: this but the pitting can also create
: perfect stress-risers, which can result
: in catastrophic failure when it's
: loaded hard.
: It depends on where the pitting is, and
: how bad it is...

: I'll inquire with one of my friends
: where
: he had a couple of driveshafts rebuilt.
: There are not many such places left.
:
: Were it not the holiday shopping season
: I would try to use the mall parking lot
: on Sunday morning to try the power
: turns you are suggesting. I'll come up
: with someplace suitable.
:
: I opened the spare diff today. I have
: a series of questions. The person who
: I bought our parts car from had removed
: the leaf spring from the diff and left
: 3 of the 4 stud holes open. Water got
: inside. I will be checking everything
: for rust but already know that one of
: the stub axle bearings was ruined by
: water. No big deal, IF I rebuild this
: diff, I would be using all new bearings
: anyway.
:
: Question 1: I am sure this unit has
: the crush sleeve. Is there any reason
: I could not make a solid spacer and
: shims to achieve the same result?
:
: Question 2: When I inspect the ring
: and pinion teeth, what should I be
: looking for that would indicate the
: gears are good enough to use... or
: should not be used?
:
: Question 3: Do I need a spreader to
: install/remove the carrier assembly or
: can I improvise? I could make a tool
: but would like to spend my time
: elsewhere.

: Find a parking lot or someplace where
: you
: can get a little left/right load on it
: and see if it changes.
: You really have to partially
: disassemble the suspension to check the
: wheel hub bearings but if they are real
: bad you can see movement in the hub
: relative to the axle shaft as you jack
: it up and take weight off it.
: Driveshaft balance is a big issue on
: these cars. Try to find a shop that
: gives a shix, and also make sure the
: slider is in good shape.
