Another consideration would be the oil pump itself not making enough pressure, due to a suction or pressure leak.

: It has been cool and damp here this
: weekend which gave me an excuse to work
: in the garage. In addition to cleaning
: the Mini's fuel tank I worked on the
: pump conversion. I got a lot done and
: have been recording the process with
: pictures.
:
: I am beginning to think I WILL use the
: converted pump even before spring. I
: took the car out to run errands this
: weekend and with the ambient
: temperature near 50 and coolant at 160,
: I was seeing 30 PSI oil pressure at
: 1000 RPM after a 10 minute drive. Very
: disappointed.

: No you would not see a pressure
: increase
: if the relief valve was doing its
: thing, and there were no excessive
: bleeds, unless the pumps ability to
: pump oil exceeded the capacity of the
: blow-off.
: I'll let Steve offer any more details
: re his experience but if there was no
: noticeable gain, I would suggest that
: the tolerances were all within limit
: and there were no excessive bleeds,
: which is a good thing.
