I have worked on gauges for many British cars including our GT6 and Spitfire. I have not measured the resistance range of those two specific sending units but it appears that Smiths standardized the resistance range of all fuel sending units after the voltage stabilizer was introduced in the early/mid-1960s. The range is nominally 270 Ohms = empty, 30 Ohms = full. Those values can range quite a bit, particularly the empty value.
You should have no problem using the GT6 gauges with the Spit sending unit or vice-versa. If the gauges are not working as you expect, post back and we'll help you troubleshoot the system.
