If not, I would first remove it and see if the syncros are in the neutral position and make sure reverse is not engaged.

: Well got the transmission bolted to the
: engine and no neutral, seems locked
: tight. Before installing the input
: shaft turned smoothly but now it is
: locked by the engine and so is the
: output shaft in all gears and neutral.
: What stupid thing could I have done?
: Not got the shift forks in the right
: place?

: Glen you were right thanks a lot for
: the
: advice. The new hub was not very
: carefully machined. I filed for about
: an hour cleaning up cuts and burrs and
: it went on perfectly no slop just
: smooth axial movement.

: OK the sync hub should float axially on
: the mainshaft.
: There might be some machining burrs on
: the splines that you could stone down
: or maybe try a bit of fine lapping
: compound. If you do lap it make sure
: it's perfectly clean before you
: assemble.

: 1/2 inner sync hub. Looks like could
: slide back and forth a bit when go from
: 1 to 2. Would take a small amount of
: slack on part of syncros , they would
: just float. Looks like the old was worn
: or intentionally made so it could slide
: back and forth a bit along with the
: syncro sleeve. New syncro hub is such a
: tight fit on the mainshaft it will stay
: where I put it. Centered between the
: split collars and the 2nd sipped gear?

: Do you mean the 1/2 inner sync hub
: (splined) or the second gear bush?
: It doesn't really matter because they
: both need running clearance.

: Next transmission question. Is the fit
: between the 1st/2ndsyncro sleeve and
: the mainshaft supposed to be a loose
: sliding fit or tight with the sleeve
: centered between the split collars and
: the 2 nd speed gear. The old worn
: sleeve was very worn and loose, the new
: is a tight fit and will not slide when
: in place along the mainshaft towards
: the 1st gear or towards the 2nd gear.
