Posted by Christopher Buyers What one needs is either someone who recognises her from another picture that has been correctly identified. Alternatively, an expert on Royal costumes and headgear may be able to give and indication of her rank. --Previous Message--

I have seen a photograph of Queen Min and the lady in this picture is definitely not her - far too young. Further confirmed form the order worn by the lady in the picture, because Korean orders were only created 5-6 years after the death of Queen Min. However, all that does not mean I can positively state who the woman in this picture may be.
: that adoptions were so common.

: If you don't mind, I'd like to go a little
: off topic and tap your geneologic expertise.
: The photo at this site:

:
: comes, as noted, from an old Japanese travel

: My wife, as I noted, saw this photo and her
: first reaction was "That's
: Yun-bi.". Given that Yun-bi was her
: great-aunt, I'm inclined to believe her, but
: she knew the woman only in her old age, so
: she wasn't certain, and she did add that
: with the character "bi" (or
: "bee") in there, there was another
: possibility, one that was a new one to me -
: it could be Kojong's brother's wife. Do you
: know anything about Kojong's brother? Or
: brothers, presumably younger?
