So what's the point?

Donga as well"
Thanks, Lukasz and Christopher - I didn't know about the US anti-comm bunch supporting Yi Seok (to what end?), and the further articles are helpful. I'll have to take a closer look at the sash. The larger question is, why on earth are they doig this? Does Yi Haeyon oppose Yi Seok's agenda, such as it is? And she is displeased by having a middle manager from Hyundai as HoH? There's also persistent reporting of that public opinion poll on return of a monarchy. Opinion may have been influenced a lot by a couple of things - the TV drama of Queen Min, portraying her as a heroic resistor to the Japanese invasion, and the current saber-rattling by Japan over whatever they can find - small islands, fishing rights, what-have-you. I think Korea at the moment tends to regard Japan and Koizumi as hand-in-hand friends of Bush, Inc., and so anti-Japanese sentiment goes along with anti-US sentiment, and perhaps one part of expressing that separate national indentity would be to have their (actually our; I hold dual US/Korean citizenship by virtue of marriage & being entered in the family registry) own monarch. It's interesting. So perhaps these various folks see a possible job opening and are jockeying for position. That's fine with me, as long as the TV movie doesn't inspire people to dump the Yi clan and go for the Min clan instead - I'm married to the current clan matriarch (the Mins have tended to not live very long and not have many children).
