    Hi Mike

Thanks for your comments. Actually all applicants must be either a Nurse or Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Clinician I think its called in the US?) so therefore they have already had at least two years of critical care experience. In the case of RT's here in Canada we have already had both a clinical and classroom experience in the O.R by the time we graduate (learning O.R equipment, basic O.R pharmacology with experience in airways). To be in the program you must be working as an AA in the O.R with the understanding that you are learning your practice on the job. You are absolutley correct the didactic portion of the program is on-line with midterms, final exams and at the end a clincal. However all of your time at work is spent learning with anesthetists in a clinical situation. This would mean airway management, induction, lines etc...I would also agree that your AA's need very intense education since in two years you are expected to be able to competently operate in an acute situation with no prior medical training. Very steep learning curve. I hope if you have any questions I could in some way help.
