Hi Dustin and Sean I have to disagree with the Anesthesiologist that stated being an Anesthesia Technician wouldn't have much of an effort getting accepted to an AA-C program (No offense that's just an MDA who don't value or look down on A.T.s). I do agree with Student, Me, & Ram 100% becoming an Anesthesia Technicians is a great steping stone in becoming an anesthetist AA-C/CRNA.

A.T., Cer.A.T.& Cer.A.T.T. is an allied healthcare professional who is an essential member of the Anesthesia Patient Care Team (APCT)as observed by the American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA), American Association of Nurse Anesthetist (AANA), and Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurse(AORN).

ASATT (The American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians)is a memeber of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA)

I'm an Anesthesia Technician Level II studying to become an Cer.A.T. and obtain my ACLS/PALS Certification with in the next 3-6 Months while I'm working on my Bachelor's of Science degree in Health/Science (B.S.H.). to become an anesthetist A.A.-C. .

As an A.T.-II, I set up prime and operate the Level One Auto Rapid Transfusion, FMS Auto Rapid Transfusion, start IV's draw and/or push certin meds (such as PROPOFOL, ETOMIDATE, ROCURONIUM CALCIUM) under direct supervision of an Anesthesiologist M.D. or D.O. present in the O.R., attend CODE BLUE with my Anesthesiologists MD/DO, insert oral temp probe, crycoid during intubation, hang fluids such as NS, LR, Albumin, assist in difficulty airway intubation such as thoracotomy inserting an Endobronchial tube, left tube clamping off one lung with an Endo Blocker Set present, trouble shooting the Anesthesia Machine teaching and/or giving inservice on the Anesthesias machine to the new Residents MDs and A.T.s etc.

Depending on what state or hospital you work at some Anesthesiology Dept. required that you must be ACLS or obtain ACLS within 90 days of hire and/or PALS certification as an A.T., Cer.A.T.& Cer.A.T.T.

In conclusion the reason why A.T.s are not really recognize as a true profession is because #1.We are nearly 20 years old which in some people eyes where still consider as a new profession. #2.A.T.s are not "license" as of yet however the goal is for all A.T.s to become license several Anesthesiologist in articles I have read including where I work said we should be "license," because of our skills we perform in the ACT and what we are allowed to do in our scope of practice.

In my opinion no offense but ASATT needs to get of their butts as well as our liaison that consit of an Anesthesiologist M.D.(ASA) and an Anesthetist C.R.N.A.(AANA) being more aggressive in getting A.T.s license. I assure you will see a difference in the Anesthesiologists and/or Anesthetists attitude.

I also spoke to an A.A.-C,M.M.Sc. when he attend AA-C program he said in his class there where several Anesthesia Technicians, EMTs, and Nurses (BSN) he said everyone did very well in the program. Need I say more good luck to both of you in AA-C program.
