My comments were "in general." Kids are always a special case. Back to general comments: I have always said the RSI as stated is wrong. It is totally nuts to let a patient go unventilated while you are waiting for the succ to hit and then going directly to the intubation attempt. I used a "modified" technique when I do RSI. Someone is doing cricoid, I have my little precordial in the notch so I can hear the cords and I start gently ventilating as the patient is going off to sleep. By the time I push the succ, I have already DONE my trial ventilation and the patient has not gone 30-45 seconds without ventilation. For kids, the FDA warns about certain medical conditions where it should not be used. Roc works just as fast, but again, if you can not tube them, it takes quite a while to get them breathing again...
