For DD and other uninformed crna'sArchived Message

I'm a former trauma nurse who went the AA route five years ago. To hear you talk about what you obviously have no knowledge about make me ashamed to share a similar background. As an AA we do the exact same cases and procedures that you do whether you work in a metro facility or a rural community hospital. The MDA works the same way that they do and always have done since you were an icu nurse, they monitor induction and are immediately available in the event of a problem. Yes they make more money, yes they don't sit in the room doing the cases day in and day out. IF this is your problem then why didn't you complain and demand equal pay to the icu doctors when you were a nurse? You were with the patient, gave the drugs etc, they came when needed. You didn't complain then because that was your job, just like as a crna or an AA your job is to care for the patient and call for assistance from the doctor in the event of an emergency. Your constant demand for studies makes you sound like an idiot, if you know so much about these alleged studies then why don't you put them up here for the public to see? There are no conclusive studies proving that crna's or aa are unequal, or whether the team approach is safer than an individual anesthesia provider for one basic fact, you don't write up studies when nothing goes wrong. As for the need to be independent of the MDA, the AA's aren't your problem, the ASA is, so why do you insist on constantly bashing the AA's? I'm an AA and and RN and proud of it. I don't need an MDA during the average case, but you know what i and the public are sure about, we are happy to have an MD at our backs when something does go wrong! Last of all, i've worked with many crna students over the years and must say that students are no better than their instructors, i've had some really bad ones and some really good ones. Instead of bashing the AA students that you may be worried about, why don't you teach them some of your so called knowledge, whether you like them or not, they are not going anywhere.
