It's good to see Mat Classic get a little love from the local Tacoma paper. I wrote an article in the News Tribune last year that alluded to the influx of wrestlers and families to the Tacoma Dome, but didn't see much recognition in the local business community. Perhaps C.R. Roberts piece will help wake them all up.
Mat Classic, he said, generates the third-greatest tournament gate receipts in the state – behind football and basketball.
What this does not mention is that Mat Classic is in and out of the Dome in 3 days. The other two tournaments take weeks. This means a better ROI for WIAA. I am also pretty sure wrestling has the highest per day attendance.
Great article. Maybe if the general public, particularly the business sector, really understood the economic impact, they would embrace the T-Dome and encourage all of the improvements that really need to be made.
