Hi Paul, it can be hard to identify a maker without a mark, as hundreds of potteries made the willow pattern. The “12” on the back most likely indicates a size (could be 12” if that’s the size). The number could just also be a number that indicated a particular size or shape, or sometimes even how many platters that size could be stacked in a kiln. It is just a guess. I would say the age probably would be late 1800s early 1900s, as your family story stated. It could be English or Scottish. Sorry I can’t help more. “Family willow” is always nice to have. Enjoy!
