Thanks for your comments. We are glad you liked the August issue. To answer your questions...
The April issue advertised the OKC convention because as of printing, that was the case. We thought we would be held to the contract, as per the letter on page 2. By May, the hotel released us of our contract, which meant no convention. The board began looking into some alternative ideas since everyone was disappointed about not having a convention to attend, and a virtual convention was brought up. The only way for us to do that was through Facebook and, yes, that meant you had to be on Facebook (and a current member of IWC). To reach our members of the plan, including those not on Facebook, we sent out an email to members announcing the virtual convention and to join Facebook to be a part of it. We hoped we would reach our members, and if that did not reach your inbox, I apologize.
As for the marketplace, IWC is simply following the affordability and popularity of online selling. Facebook Marketplaces allow for these to be set up easily and at no cost. It allows collectors to connect as buyers and sellers in a semi-vetted environment (you have to be accepted in IWC’s private FB group to be in the marketplace). We understand not everyone has or wants to have a Facebook account, but this allows those who do the chance to buy and sell. I am not aware of another option that would allow us to buy and sell like the marketplace program. But I know you are a bit savvy in this area and you might know of something. If you do, please email our president (and cc me, please). It’s a big online world out there and people are always creating new things. I know the board is always open to ideas, and would be happy to entertain any suggestions.
It is sad when we lose members and, as you said, it is fun to remember past conventions and friendships.
I hope that by next summer, we are all gathering in Kentucky for an on-the-ground convention and hope to see you there!
I hope you and Dale are doing well..take care and be safe!
