I found this beautiful dark blue and white cup today in a thrift shop, dangling from the end of a shelf, by the tea cup's handle! I saved the cup! I purchased it, and when I got home I looked at the underside of the cup and told my husband that's the cup had a lot of markings on it, one of which to me looked like a "paint brush with wings!" Jeff looked at it closely with a magnifying glass and said that the paint brush with wings is a bow and quiver with Ridgway in the center of the quiver. We looked up the pattern and found that it is a Blue Willow. We have been looking on the Internet to find this exact makers mark and haven't been successful, so I will do my best to describe it, and hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this beautiful tea cup that looks like it should have a saucer.
There are 3 separate marks on the bottom of the cup. The top one is the bow and quiver. Below that is a diamond shape with a double lined border. The top left side of the diamond says England. The top right side of the diamond is blurry, but looks like numerals that begin 18 then two more numerals that are blurry. The bottom left side of the diamond has 3 letters unable to tell what they say. The bottom right side of the diamond has writing that is very blurry and long. In the center of the diamond it says "Semi China". Below the diamond it says, England
Made In
Great Britain
I'm so sorry about the lengthy posting, but this little gem is sitting in my china closet making me want to know more about it! Thanks so much for any information anyone may have! I'd like to find a little saucer for it!
Best regards, Sherrie
