It is a portrait of Albert Smith, 1816-60, a Victorian entertainer. He climbed Mont Blanc in August 1851 and opened his entertainment in the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly in March 1853 that ran for over 2000 performances, ending in 1858. He gave lectures illustrated with moving panoramas that were quite popular. The plates as seen here were offered for sale in the foyer of the theater.
