Sorry about the breakage...that's always sad. Once in the past when an item arrived broken, ebay had me contact a local antique shop/dealer...someone who was officially in the antiques business, and ebay requested an estimate of value on that company's letterhead. That might be an option. Do you have the receipt from the person you bought it from? Will the airlines accept that? You might also look in the collectors' guides and xerox photos of other tureens and their values, then average them out. I am not sure that the airlines will accept the opinion of just another collector, though. You might do better with an antique shop where you are. I would think if you do find a dealer, they will want to see a photo of the pieces that were broken to identify exactly what they were, so hopefully you have that.
