Hello Vicky, I'm glad that you came to us in your search for Blue Willow. For beginning collectors we always suggest that you learn as much as you can. If you go to the home page of our website it will lead you to a number of reference books that you can try to find and purchase. Or you can search the internet for information. You can find examples of different variations of the Willow pattern on the pages of this site. The traditional pattern will have a temple to the right surrounded by fruit trees, a fence in the front, the bridge with three people on it in the center and two birds in the sky as well as a boat and smaller buildings in the back. There are hundreds of variations of this and hundreds of manufacturers. Finding a pattern that you like then knowing who made it is the first place to start. You can start collecting by buying what you like in the best condition that you can afford. It's not a good buy if it's got cracks and chips in it no matter how cheap it is. The exception might be if it's got a chip off the back that doesn't show from the front and you plan to use it for display only. Of course there are new sets and pieces still being made today and would be less expensive than buying antiques. Joining the club and attending our conventions is a fantastic way to learn more about Willow. I would be happy to help you do that if you decide. Good luck and happy Willowing.
