Not only did my parents stress kindness and honesty but the nuns in school reinforces those qualities. My parents were practical people who were raised by immigrants and they knew first hand what having others make fun of them, their food, their work ethic..lots of racism back then but they stuck together and weathered the storms. They didnt just teach the golden rule, they lived it.
