Also, try calling food banks. St. Mary's, Salvation Army and others locally. I have a neighbor who always goes to them, collecting food and giving it to her senior neighbors. If they have food that no one takes, they get rid of it, especially fresh produce and meats. Through a Weslyn church in California, there was a program called SHARE that I had to use a couple of times when I was laid off. At the time, you paid $14 and got enough food to last for a while, especially things like rice, beans and pasta.
