I never had a store-bought costume either. We used to go out all over the hill I lived on and would come home with quite a haul. Sometimes we'd get coins because the houses would run out of candy. Mom would always bake cookies and put them in little waxed paper sandwich bags for treats. She'd make popcorn balls too.

My girls had mostly homemade costumes. I'd spend hours coming up with stuff for them. Three of my older girls also wore a couple of costumes my mother made for me. One was a Martha Washington gown with Halloween colors. The other was a costume I wore in a recital I'd been in in dance. I'll have to see if I can find any pictures handy.

When I first moved here, I'd get about 20 or 30 then it dwindled down to zero, so I don't even bother any more.

I loved Halloween as a kid and with my girls. All four of them.
