I think we call if Fall because of the little ditty, Spring forward and fall back for Daylight Savings time. I normally call if Fall but sometimes use Autum. Also, Autum is when leaves fall from the trees.

Sorry about your little flowers. Also, sorry for the wildlife that forage for food any place they can find it when their normal sources have literally dried up. It would be tough to stand guard 24/7 so I feel for you, Pattie dear.
