I would have loved to learn French. I took Conversational German before I went there to visit my husband who was working in Munich. I remember a bit, but not much.

I think ALL kids should take a second language. Especially Spanish starting in kindergarten. I advocated for it even when Rene' was in grade school. Not just English for foreign language students like it is now. Although I believe English should be mandatory for everyone anyway.

Rene is a kindergarten teacher, and she gets lots of kids in who don't speak English. She is pretty much fluent as she took it all through high school when it was an elective and in college. Her husband, Johnny, even spent 2 weeks living with a family in Mexico to further hone his Spanish. The family was instructed to only talk to him in Spanish and not use any English at all. He became fluent.
