I tend to allow more buildup nowadays than in the past in younger days.

I used a section of my kitchen cabinets for a desk space.I had a wall phone and would do my paperwork there.

One time my sister dropped by and "cleaned" my kitchen without my knowledge.I could not find a thing for weeks.I informed her to never touch my "desk" ever again lol.
