I understand completely. These two will be it for us.

I was telling a helper that when we are petless I would love a cat or a bird. He started talking about birds. He said they are much more trouble than people think plus they are really dirty. And the big ones squawk and shriek. A bird is out.
Helper said that's a wise decision.

So maybe an older cat. One who's owner died.
