In the case of Senator Hoffman, his wife who was also shot threw herself over her daughter to protect their daughter from being shot. On one local news channel I heard that their daughter is an adult but I'm unsure of that.

Latest I've heard is that the shooter was a Trump supporter and that his wife and kids have disappeared so either they knew a head of time what his plans were or maybe the police will find that he also shot his own family but I'm betting that they are hiding out somewhere.
