I walked home for lunch in elementary school. I remember sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch (Campbell's soup and half a sandwich) and when we heard the factory whistles from a nearby mill we knew we had to get up and get back to school.

In high school we had cafeteria meals. I remember them as being really bad. They were 35 cents. Or you could get an ice cream sandwich from a machine in the cafeteria.
