A comforting, budget-friendly casserole packed with savory flavors and layered with cabbage, beef, and rice.
What You'll Need
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 small head of cabbage, chopped
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
1 cup cooked rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
How to Make It
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned and the onions are soft. Drain any excess grease.
3. Stir in the garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
4. In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage, then half of the beef mixture, followed by half of the cooked rice.
5. Repeat the layers with the remaining cabbage, beef mixture, and rice.
6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes, until the cabbage is tender.
7. If using cheese, remove the foil, sprinkle the cheddar on top, and bake uncovered for 10 more minutes until melted and bubbly.
8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
