3 cups plain flour, sifted
3 cups sugar
½ cup crisco
1 cup butter, room temperature
5 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
Blend baking powder with flour
Add vanilla to milk
Cream sugar, Crisco and butter flavored Crisco together. Beat until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each one. Add flour 1 cup at a time, mixing throughly after each addition, alternately with milk. Beat on med. speed for 5 minutes. Pour into well greased and floured cake pan, lined on bottom with parchment paper. Tap pan lightly on counter to release any air pockets. Bake at 325 degrees for 1¼ to 1½ hours. Let cool. Turn out of pan and cool completely.
You can use other flavorings if you wish. I substituted Butter Crisco for butter in the recipe. You may choose to use the "real" thing instead as my Grandmother did...
I top a slice of this with strawberries and whip cream......
